The Chattanooga State Lady Tigers, in their first game since Feb. 23, started slowly but finished strong in eliminating Dyersburg State, 75-53, Wednesday night in the TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII tournament at 'Z' Buda Gymnasium on the campus of Walters State Community College
In the other game in the night session, Motlow State dumped Jackson State, 83-70.
Chattanooga State had a balanced scoring attack with four players netting double figures, led by Jessica Tharpe with 15 points. Irish McDonald added 12 while Shanice Singleton and Latrice Bayman had 10 apiece. Charnette Davis raked down 15 rebounds, eight on the offensive end.
For Dyersburg State, Candice Wright led the way with 15 points. Amanda Tharp chipped in 12 while Deltra Fowlkes scored 11.
Motlow State (13-16) turned in one of the most impressive performances of the day in sending the Generals (6-15) packing.
,p>Jerrica Johnson was two assists away from a triple-double as she netted 10 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the Lady Bucks.
Kiera Nelson also had a double-double for Motlow State with 17 points and 18 rebounds. Lauran Hudgins tallied 17 points in the win, Abby Jackson finished with 16 while Cori Jones had 12.
Jackson State received 19 points and nine rebounds from Shan'dedra Cook and 12 points each from Kendra Pruitt and Kendra Toone in the defeat.
Quarterfinal play begins Friday at 2 p.m. for the women as Southwest Tennessee and Cleveland State pair off followed by Roane State and Saint Catharine at 4 p.m. The 6 p.m. contest features Walters State and Motlow State while at 8 p.m., Columbia State and Chattanooga State closed out the night.
